 MAKE YOUR DAY

Don't start your day by supposin ‘
That trouble is just ahead,
It's better to stop supposin’
And start with a prayer instead.
And make it a prayer of Thanksgiving
For the wonderful things God has wrought
Like the beautiful sunrise and sunset,
"God's gifts" that are free
And not bought.

For what is the use of supposin’
The dire things that could happen to you
And worry about some misfortune
That seldom if ever comes true
But instead of just idle supposin’
Step forward to meet each new day

Secure in the knowledge God's near you
To lead you each step of the way

For supposin’ the worst things will happen
Only helps to make them come true
And you darken the bright, happy moments
That the dear Lord has given to you
So if you desire to be happy
And get rid of the "misery of dread"
Just give up "supposin’ the worst things"
And look for "the best things" instead.

 Winter

You know, time has a way of moving quickly
and catching you unaware of the passing years.
It seems just yesterday that I was a young girl,
just married and embarking on my new life
with my husband.

And yet in a way, it seems like eons ago,
and I wonder where all the years went.
I know that I lived them all...
and I have glimpses of how it was back then
and of all my hopes and dreams.
and it catches me by surprise.
How did I get here so fast?
 Where did the years go
and where did my babies go?

I remember well...
seeing older people through the years
and thinking that those older people
were years away from me and that winter
was so far off that I could not fathom it
or imagine fully what it would be like.
here it is...husband retired yesterday
and he's really getting gray...he moves slower
and I see an older man now.
He's in much better shape than me,
but I see the great change.

Not the one I married who was dark and young
and strong... but, like me, his age is beginning
to show and we are now those older folks
that we used to see and never thought we'd be.

Each day now, I find that just getting
a shower is a real target for the day!
And taking a nap is not a treat anymore...
it's mandatory cause if I don't
on my own free will...
I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so, now I enter into this new season
of my life unprepared for all the aches
and pains and the loss of strength
and ability to go and do things.
at least I know that
 though the winter has come...
and I'm not sure how long it will last...
this I know, that when it's over,
I will enjoy the Spring in the
arms of my loving Father
and wait for my loved ones
to come when their winter is over too.

So, if you're not in your winter yet...
let me remind you that
it will be here faster than you think.
So, whatever you would like
to accomplish in your life
please do it quickly!

Remember that scripture..."our life
is but a vapor, it vanishes away"...
So, do what you can today,
because you can never be sure
whether this is your winter or not!

You have no promise that you will see
all the seasons of your life.
So, live for the Lord today
and say all the things that you want

your loved ones to remember

 LIFE'S TRIALS

THE SCARS OF LIFE

Some years ago, on a hot summer day in south
Florida , a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.
His father, working in the yard, saw the two as they got closer and closer together. In utter fear, he ran toward the water, yelling to his son as loudly as he could.
Hearing his voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a U-turn to swim to his father. It was too late. Just as he reached his father, the alligator reached him.

From the dock, the father grabbed his little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger th an the father, but the father was much too passionate to let go.
A farmer happened to drive by, heard his screams, raced from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator.
Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal. And, on his arms, were deep scratches where his f ather's fingernails dug into his flesh in his effort to hang on to the son he loved.
The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said to the reporter, "But look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms, too. I have them because my Dad wouldn't let go."

You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, not from an alligator, but the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret. But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go. In the midst of your struggle, He's been there holding on to you.
The Scripture teaches that God loves you. You are a child of God. He wants to protect you and provide for you in every way
But sometimes we foolishly wade into dangerous situations, not knowing what lies ahead. The swimming hole of life is filled with peril - and we forget that the enemy is waiting to attack. That's when the tug-of-war begins - and if you have the scars of His love on your arms, be very, very grateful. He did not and will not ever let you go.

 A GREAT INSPIRING MESSAGE

Jeremy was born with a twisted body and a slow mind. At the age of 12 he was still in second grade, seemingly unable to learn. His teacher, Doris Miller, often became exasperated with him. He would squirm in his seat, drool, and make grunting noises. At other times, he spoke clearly and distinctly, as if a spot of light had penetrated the darkness of his brain. Most of the time, however, Jeremy just irritated his teacher.

emptyeasteregg-1.jpg (12060 bytes)

One day she called his parents and asked them to come in for a consultation. As the Forresters entered the empty classroom, Doris said to them, "Jeremy really belongs in a special school. It isn't fair to him to be with younger children who don't have learning problems. Why, there is a five year gap between his age and that of the other students."

Mrs. Forrester cried softly into a tissue, while her husband spoke.

"Miss Miller," he said, "there is no school of that kind nearby. It would be a terrible shock for Jeremy if we had to take him out of this school. We know he really likes it here."

Doris sat for a long time after they had left, staring at the snow outside the window. Its coldness seemed to seep into her soul. She wanted to sympathize with the Forresters. After all, their only child had a terminal illness. But it wasn't fair to keep him in her class. She had 18 other youngsters to teach, and Jeremy was a distraction. Furthermore, he would never learn to read and write. Why waste any more time trying?

emptyeasteregg-2.jpg (11888 bytes)

As she pondered the situation, guilt washed over her. Here I am she thought. Lord, please help me to be more patient with Jeremy. From that day on, she tried hard to ignore Jeremy's noises and his blank stares.

Then one day, he limped to her desk, dragging his bad leg behind him. "I love you, Miss Miller," he exclaimed, loud enough for the whole class to hear. The other students snickered, and Doris' face turned red.

She stammered, "Wh--why that's very nice, Jeremy. N--now please take your seat."

Spring came, and the children talked excitedly about the coming of Easter. Doris told them the story of Jesus, and then to emphasize the idea of new life springing forth, she gave each of the children a large plastic egg.

emptyeasteregg-3.jpg (11287 bytes)

"Now," she said to them, "I want you to take this home and bring it back tomorrow with something inside that shows new life. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Miss Miller," the children responded enthusiastically --all except for Jeremy. He listened intently; his eyes never left her face. He did not even make his usual noises. Had he understood what she had said about Jesus' death and resurrection? Did he understand the assignment?

Perhaps she should call his parents and explain the project to them. That evening, Doris' kitchen sink stopped up. She called the landlord and waited an hour for him to come by and unclog it. After that, she still had to shop for groceries, iron a blouse, and prepare a vocabulary test for the next day. She completely forgot about phoning Jeremy's parents.

The next morning, 19 children came to school, laughing and talking as they placed their eggs in the large wicker basket on Miss Miller's desk. After they completed their math lesson, it was time to open the eggs.

In the first egg, Doris found a flower.

"Oh yes, a flower is certainly a sign of new life," she said. "When plants peek through the ground, we know that spring is here."

A small girl in the first row waved her arm. "That's my egg, Miss Miller," she called out.

The next egg contained a plastic butterfly, which looked very real. Doris held it up.

"We all know that a caterpillar changes and grows into a beautiful butterfly. Yes, that's new life, too."

emptyeasteregg-5.jpg (10608 bytes)

Little Judy smiled proudly and said, "Miss Miller, that one is mine."

Next, Doris found a rock with moss on it. She explained that moss, too, showed life.

Billy spoke up from the back of the classroom, "My daddy helped me," he beamed.

Then Doris opened the fourth egg. She gasped. The egg was empty.

emptyeasteregg-anim1.gif (24311 bytes)emptyeasteregg-anim1.gif (24311 bytes)emptyeasteregg-anim1.gif (24311 bytes)

Surely it must be Jeremy's she thought, and of course, he did not understand her instructions. If only she had not forgotten to phone his parents. Because she did not want to embarrass him, she quietly set the egg aside and reached for another.

Suddenly, Jeremy spoke up. "Miss Miller, aren't you going to talk about my egg?"

Flustered, Doris replied, "But Jeremy, your egg is empty."

emptyeasteregg-6.jpg (10120 bytes)

He looked into her eyes and said softly, "Yes, but Jesus' tomb was empty, too."

Time stopped. When she could speak again, Doris asked him, "Do you know why the tomb was empty?"

"Oh, yes," Jeremy said, "Jesus was killed and put in there. Then His Father raised Him up."

emptyeasteregg-anim1.gif (24311 bytes)emptyeasteregg-anim1.gif (24311 bytes)emptyeasteregg-anim1.gif (24311 bytes)

The recess bell rang. While the children excitedly ran out to the schoolyard, Doris cried. The cold inside her melted completely away.

Three months later, Jeremy died. Those who paid there respects at the mortuary were surprised to see 19 eggs on top of his casket, all of them empty.

 YOU ARE NEVER ALONE

nature_234.jpg
He can calm the troubled waters
When you walk in dark despair.
There is hope when you feel hopeless
Knowing that the Lord is there.
Sharing in your sunshine moments
Or in valleys deep and wide,
He will never, ever leave you --
He is always by your side.
There's no other friend so faithful
Through the sunshine and the rain,
Through the teardrops and the laughter,
In your joy and in your pain.
We could never, ever thank Him enough
For His love He gives so free,
Never changing...never ending
Throughout all eternity.
Oh, the wonder of all wonders
As we live from day to day,
Knowing that we have a Father
Who is with us all the way.
